It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, blah, blah blah, blah blah.
It looked like the best shot at wind today was up in evanston, so i drove up there with friends from out of town. Pulled off at the Divide road exit and they had actually plowed the dirt road that heads north, so we started up it. There was a drift that i thought i could make it thru, but i thought wrong and we spent 15 minutes getting the car unstuck. Also managed to break a ski (foolishly) using it as a shovel in the process. The wind was upper 20's gusting to 35. The snow pack was a bit thin, so we continued on to check out another spot on rt 189. The snow was even thinner there, so we returned to Divide Rd, and rode there. My friend had some equipment problems, so we cut the session a little short. kited for 45 minutes or so on a depowered 7m, dodging the bare spots. Great wind, bad snow.
On the way home i thought i'd stop at richardson's just to see how the snow pack looked there in case some wind turned up tomorrow. The snow there looked great and when i stepped out of the car, the wind was blowing 15mph. So we rigged up some big kites and out we went. I kited for about 10 minutes when the wind shut down to zero. thwarted again. Great snow, bad wind.
So what is the current status of the legality of kiting richardson's?
