7/30 ULLB 12M Waroo

Postby Weston Youd » Thu Jul 31, 2008 10:40 am

Went down to ULLB at about 5:45 and could tell it was going to a bust, but I decided to stick around and see if it would pick up. Besides, I was able to listen to the Cubs play the Brewers on the radio and that sure beat doing yardwork. Anyway, at about 6:15, I was sufficiently discouraged and pulled away. On the way home, I saw Sal drive down, and thought that he might know something I don't, and sure enough he did. I turned around and when I pulled back into the parking lot, the wind was up at the 8 knot range, and climbing. Sal finished his wind dance and it was 12 to 15 M rig-able. Wind was alright until about 8:15, when it seemed to be backing off.

Want to thank Sal for helping me launch and Jason for helping land the kite. While I didn't get any good passes in, I was able to control the kite and re-launch when it fell. A good first solo session for a newb.

Weston,
I was checking the wind last night at Lake Shore. Was it up and down at all? Looks like from 6:30 to 9:00 it was good from the wind meter.
Wish I was there.

It seemed fairly consistent during the 2 hours I was there. If you rigged a big kite I bet you could have a great time...

Also, if anyone knows how to contact Sal, I think I left him my pump and forgot to get it back from him.

Thanks,
Weston

Arpi and I were at ULSSB. Had the place all to ourselves, very nice session. We flew big kites but had plenty of power. Apri gambled a bit and rode til almost dark. I came in a bit earlier thinking if the wind dies we are mosquito bait. The wind held on long enough for us to both get packed and on the road without too much loss of blood.

Dean,

I would live to kite more at SSB. My feet would love to walk on sand rather than rocky bottom of LB. Were you dealing with onshore wind from the north or did you get some side on shore?
