Mona 5/20 4.2 to 6.2

Postby Sarah Ranes » Wed May 21, 2008 9:35 am

got out of work early, and headed south. Not much wind on the way down, thru Provo and Spanish fork. finally saw some wind just before Mona, arrive @ 3:15 to winds of 14 to 17...started rigging 6.2 and 106....by the time we were ready, we needed a 9.0. so we waited a few, until the wind came back, and went out on the 6.2. Keeping an eye on the south, which looked very dark/dusty. Got about 4 or 5 reaches, when the wind came in a big way, and we worked to get back in. Started rigging a 4.2 and small board, but the wind quickly died back to 9.0 and rigged a chair. Wind came back big, finished rigging the 4.2, and got about 2 lightly powered rides, too much work and schlogg time, and headed in. Rigged a 5.4 and 106 and finally got some decent rides for the next hour or so, in very gusty wind. Came off the water just after 8, and headed for home. Always a treat to get to sail after work, mid week!

Cindy and I were on our way to MM-19 but with the glassy conditions and the dust to the South we kept on going and headed to Mona. After watching the wind go way up and way down and clock from S to W and back S again as Sarah mentioned, we finally rigged up and got some rides. Jason & Todd went out on 11Ms and seemed to be dialed in most of the session. On one reach I saw a stick in the water which, on closer inspection, turned out to be a ~4' gopher snake swimming to the far side. Sounds like the water was a bit warmer that UT lake.

Nice Layne & Cindy ... Great to see you guys getting some rides... Them Gopher snakes is good eaten'... Sorry, for a minute their my Yuba roots came out in me...

We were tempted to venture south upon seeing the glassy water at MM19, however, I called the windtalker and saw that there was strong wind heading our way and the wall of dust was a SLIGHT indication... Yeah, the water was actually pretty nice... But the fact that it was clean was the wierd part.

And PS Sarah, ya know, I haven't hit a carp at Utah Lake it like two years... I've seen a lot jumping, but haven't hit any...
