16 for 21 mixed bag in the gorge

What a great vacation. Three weeks is just enough to make me want to move. I got a little bit of everything from 5.2 easterlies at Stevenson to 4.2 and 3.7 at three mile. Mid trip they were calling for strong winds all the way east for 2 or 3 days,so I talked this guy Rob from No. Cal. into going and checking it out. The difference in drive time from Rosey or 3 mile is only about 10 minutes believe it or not. Plus Rosey is being taken over by the dark side. So we camped for 2 nites and sailed 3 days. The first 2 were incredable. Good steady 4.7 early then 4.2 and 3.7 late. The swell there if you've never been is amazing.Launch from the boat ramp and sail up wind a little to the biggest swells on the river.Honestly, when Rob (we were the only 2 there)was in the bottom of the swell in front of me he was totally out of view. I love it because the swells are much longer and further apart which makes it easier for us old guys. Thanks John Guay for telling me about this place so long ago.Don't pass up a chance to go there. If the wind gets that far east it is sooo worth it. Which brings me to the subject of gas. In the 3 weeks I was there it went up 40 cents a gal. Gas is about 4.20 a gal and Diesel is about $5.oo. ouch. But I don't care. I'm Going back in 3 weeks. The rest of the trip was good as well with some 5.2 and 4.7 days at Dougs and the Hatch. And the logo high day Craig mentioned (I was at Dougs). I only used my 5.9 once. I don't know why I even take my 6.6 up there. I got to sail a little with Craig, Stewart,Jamie and Jim. At one time, Craig, Jim and I were the only 3 out at the Hatch (They on 4.7's and me on my 5.2). Not crouded at all for either the Canadian holiday or Mem. day. Nice to see Gunnars walking around and hopefully on the water soon. Take the forecasts up there with a grain of salt. For instance on the fri. before Mem. day they were saying alot of no wind for the weekend.(I windsurf.com) but Sun. and Mon. it blew 4.7 for me and 4.3 for Guys like Stewart. Oh ya, I even got to ride my motorcycle a couple of days. Take care and maybe see you up there around the 4th of July. Tom W.
