8/1 DC all day up & down to powered epic

Postby windzup » Fri Aug 01, 2008 9:50 pm

I arrived to a dozen kites on the beach and in the air. stoked. Faces and kites changes throughout the day, maybe 20 plus different kiters. Along with the wind, which came decently and abruptly left a few times, but the evening sesh filled in and we all became over powered on 13's and glides, traded down board and kite sizes and all came in tired while the wind was still blowing.

If I left in the afternoon I would have called it a 'typical DC day with on and off winds...but after leaving near sunset, I call it one of the best fresh water Utah days I've had in a long time.'

Hope tonight was just a glimpse of tomorrow.....

Kite sizes ranged from 9-13 with a couple 15's early on.

8/1 DC all day up & down to powered epic, Pole Version

Postby John Dubock » Fri Aug 01, 2008 9:53 pm

August 1, Board Meetin' of the Poles

28 knots at 12:30, 12k 45 mins later, so what else is new? 7.5 was the call, a mega bonus session from 5pm to 645pm, we poles like to sail beyond those kiters jes' for ol' times sake. Of course it took a Triple Sacrifice, Geo Ward, Dave O and Andy had to leave to make room for Paul/Angie, Tim and I to sail late late late.

Jim's Board meeting covered a range of topics:
The kiters 'parking turnout' at Darkside Beach is the new Club 54. Roll by at noon and kiters are showing off for the tourista cameras like bears at Yellowstone! They have a Mexican food cart already, we have dirt sandwiches at IB and all the comforts of the Gobi Desert. We hear they are breaking ground on the first phase of condos at Darkside, and they have live music during Happy Hour! Its rumoured there is a Woodstock like festival coming to Dark B. this summer: "Kiteapalooza"...

We rose our Nalgene's in toast to Carl C. , Starboard brother emeritus and wondered how funny he'll look at Vela Puerto Rico's gear shack DEMANDING a 13.0 rental sail. His favorite trail to the water, fast becoming the world's longest rig carrying hike will be waiting. Now the Rangers require any Boy Scouts to carry a GPS, flares and satellite phone when walking from the parking lot to the water.

The rookie award goes to a true pioneer in pain, one Andy Morse. He's sailed 40 times, has wooden booms, a classic Fathead 5.5 marginal sail and a German long board. I'm not saying it was old, but the stringer line had the signature "Adolf Hitler-German Windgear will Dominate Forever!". Andy doesn't own a harness, when was the last time any of us poles did 2hrs without it? He's engaged so find it in your heart to bring him up to 2008 and sell him some fine gear. Especially before his future bride catalogs it.

John,

We kiters will enjoy the limelight while the water is low, next year we will be launching off the rocks and you have the place to yourself again...
