SSB 8/26/08 13m ozone sport II

Postby Mark Johnson » Wed Aug 27, 2008 4:48 am

I Ditched work early. Arrived around 11:30 and the wind was nice but backed off a bit. For the most part it was perfect 13m wind for my settup.
It was perfect chance for me to practice a back-roll. I was able to pull off a few rolls but got slammed on a few more.
I can tell that I will be feeling it this morning as I head back to work. Rode with all the usuall suspects and then some, too many to list this early in morning.

22 kite in the air at one point. I think thats more then all the wind surfers in the state!

Kenny may have had lincoln all to him self but the stoke at SSB was un matched, Several begginers out learning lots of riders throwing down!

Its great to watch the rednecks pull in to smash bottles and what not, only to see the lot full and be forced to turn around and go some where else.

Only down side was the kids shooting shot guns in the bushes, even after spencer went and talked with them it was still abit scary. Plus they were little wise assses towards several of us when they left. Next time I am just going to call the sheriff.

yea, that was a bit weird arrive to gun fire, but the evening session was great.

so, i was over optimistic on the pictures i took. they are all out of focus. i'm goign to have to dial in my camera a bit more and get some better pictures. they are good action shots, just tight on the focus. i'll have to get it figured out. i thought the camera was supposed to adjust focus on the mode on was shooting on.

anyway, i can't get out of the valley till about 5:30 tonight, so i'm not sure if i'll make it down to SSB. if i don't, i'll work on posting some pictures up tonight for all you sluts.

Weston and I were a couple of the rookies out there. We had a great time, the best session ever for both of us. I really enjoyed the sand under my feet everywhere I walked! We rode a 12M Waroo and a LF Proof 151. It worked perfect, were powered up from 5:30 until 8 when we left with a handful still riding. It was the first time I have been able to go out when the wind was steady enough for long enough to really get some good practice in. Thanks to Kenny for ongoing tips he has been giving me on stance and many other things. Spent last night just trying to work on my stance and can really feel a difference in control. It was so fun. I wish I would have taken the entire day off to ride!

22 kites in the air, wow! Guess I missed the party. Weird thing is that I could only see a kite or two at SSB and only infrequently. Must have been the smoke in the air from the Draper Fire. Thought of riding up to SSB, but I could not leave the flat water of the jetty. Rode in the boat inlet for a while as well. I felt like a flat water pig, gorging myself all evening long. Wish I could go again tonight.

Kryk, glad to hear you are doing well on your stance. You rode the 12M, I was on an 11 with power to spare...

yeah, really nice evening. I was out on the 15m for almost 3 hours. very juiced for the last hour, but never felt overpowered. rode til i was shivering and exhausted, then i rode for another hour. Spent an hour working on backrolls, landed about half, but had all sorts of backwards landings on the other half - under rotated, over rotated, upside-down slamboni-tated. A great evening, maybe the best water session this year.

The teenage rouge-nape shooting range was definately a little odd.

Great couple of sessions.
Big day for me,,
first day I didn't limp out of the water since injury in early July.
Couple of rotations and mini jumps.
Amazing how the little things can mean so much again.

Great so see everyone out there...

Yeah, as Kyrk said, it was great to be out there and get in a great session. Now if I can just the tacking to the right dialed in, I'll be happy... Thanks to all who had patience with us and hope we didn't get in anyone's way.
The swell was nice. I enjoyed the mini bodysurfing on the 1.5ft breakers.

I was the newbie out in the water last night and had a great time. Sorry for getting in everyone's way. I appreciate the courtesy of all the kiters that somehow managed to avoid running over me! There were even a few that came by and checked to see if everything was ok. Billy hooked me up with his 9m Ozone Instinct Light II. I had few decent reaches, but have a long way to go. Thanks guys for your patience. Hopefully I'll be up and riding consistently soon!
