North wind at Cabin site - south wind is better at 6 mile cove. The wind at cabin site is considered part of the Santa Ana's. A few kiters showed up but left without rigging. Two kiters did launch a 7 and a 9 meter kite completely lit. Wind was gusting into the 40s. I have heard many kiters say that cabin site is a very sketchy place to launch. There are other places for kiters to launch like telephone cove.
The launch is fine. The rangers are 50/50 on enforcement. So it is better just to park on top and not deal with any rangers. Mike and I have been parking near the ledge and just launch right out of the cove. Sometimes there is a little of a challenge but mostly not. Plus the ledge makes a good wind shadow to keep gear in. Even if you walked your gear down to the beach it would still only be 1/8 the distance of Dougs beach.
The water temp hasn't dropped too much. A good 3/2 wetsuit or better is needed. But then again we had 80 degree air temps.
Friday had to be the best day I have had in many years. From sun up to sun down solid 4.0 to 4.7 wind. Lots of smoke on the water, swell wasn't huge but it set up well in pretty long clean sections. Saturday was 4.7 gusty and at times 4.0. But I am fat and still inefficient on a small board. Others were on 4.2, 4.0, 3.7 and 3.4. I was absolutely exhausted after many hours of high wind sailing. Oh yeah for those who know him Jarek used his smallest 95 liters and 5.0m which made for some spectacular crashes. His gps topped out at 30.5 over the chop. Most of the times he zoomed past me his board wasn't touching the water and you could see his fin's logo.
Whatever thou art, do well thy part.
