12/25 Strawberry - Good News/Bad News

Postby Jason Klein » Thu Dec 25, 2008 7:27 pm

Spencer and i made the trek through the blizzard over to strawberry today. We checked out Strawberry river, which was a complete whiteout when we arrived, and then moved down to co-op creek and decided to rig there because there was a some sage/brush sticking up to give it some contrast. The good news is the snow report . Anyone worrying about there being enough snow there can stop worrying. There's plenty of it. Mid-thigh deep powder as far as the eye can see. Just waiting for sufficient wind to drag crazy people like us through it. The bad news is that there was too much of it for the wind there today. Strawberry was maybe the only place in the state with winds under 20mph today. The roughly 11-14mph winds just were not enough to get moving through snow that deep. We wrestled with it for an hour or so, getting a great workout, but registering somewhere between jogging and needlepoint on the fun meter. I ended up taking a few dozen laps around the parking lot just to get a few rides in.

Jason,

Thank you for the snow report! Tomorrow may just be the day at Strawberry.
