4/12, 8m Futura 144L, UL Lindon Beach

The sticky snow at Strawberry made my knees hurt. I had to leave just as Sarah was ripping in her 11m. When I got down to the valley, the wind was strong and air temperature was in the 60s. So, I put my Futura in the car and headed to Lindon Beach. Water is still a little cold. But my wetsuit worked fine. Today has to be one of the most beautiful day I've had: snowkite in the afternoon and windsurf before sunset. . .

I watched the flag near my house (at the lowbook sales dealer by the Wal-Mart in Lindon) yesterday afternoon and thought, it's light but rideable! Glad you got out on the beach. I went down there on Saturday to see how much of the reeds were burnt by the fire dept and was surprised to see that the burn section was not at big as I thought it would be based on that des news article last week. I keep hoping that beach will be able to grow if they can get rid of the reeds, but we'll see what the Utah Lake Commission does it with.

Hey Leo,
Would you say UL is around 48-50 degrees, like 4-5 mil wetsuit w hood & booties etc.?

Leo....Wow....you are an animal! I am amazed at your energy level! Snowkite all morning, then wind surf all afternoon. that is awesome! What was the launch like @ Lindon? I have not been there in a few years. Glad you got mega rides!

FYI - Here is a web site I found that tells the mean water temp of UL

The site claims their accuracy is within 4 degrees. They say the temp right now at UL is 49 degrees which is up from 43 during all of the snow storms last week.

Sarah: snowkiting in the morning weakened one side of my knee and I think the windsurf board helped put it into the right place. It was a work out for a few rides though. The Launch site at Lindon Beach is a lot nicer than at the state park. Still, I wish there is a grassy area for rigging.

Kyrk: Can we suggest to the UL Commission that we help clean/cut the reed? I like a good exercise.

Dave: I was only in my 4/3 semi-dry suit. Though I wish I have a pair better boots.

Interestingly enough according to the article this effort to burn the reeds does not seem to coincide with the UL commission. I guess the reeds are now on "the list" of pesky plants and the forest service or some other organization like it is working on this effort. Here is a quote from the article:

"Tossing fire bombs and armed with fire-igniting flares, a bevy of firefighters conducted a 112-acre prescribed burn Tuesday in what is hoped to be the first of many successful attempts to eradicate the pesky phragmites plant, otherwise known as the common reed."
