Saratoga Springs - April 24th, 2009

I arrived at 3:30 thinking there would be people waiting around for the stronger wind, to my surprise no one was there. So I rigged my 6.3 and spent some time on the grass practicing stupid tricks. At 4:30 I decided to just go get in the water, hoping the wind would pick up, but it didn't. Jim Hornbeck showed up around 5:00 and after chatting with him for a few minutes the wind picked up. And it picked up in a Utah Lake North fashion. First it was perfect 6.3 then it was perfect 5.8 and then it was perfect 5.2. I was out getting some good rides while Jim rigged too big - 6.8. When he finally got out I had already flattened my sail and wasn't clearing my fin of the speed governors. I think Jim made one or two reaches out when he was flattened. Took him 5 to 10 minutes to get the waterstart. I left after he got back into the marina, but it looked 5.5ish and chocolaty. Water temp is tolerable. I wore everything that I had, quickly warmed up. Windsurfing takes different muscles which I haven't worked out all winter.

Yes I did get spanked on the 6.9. Rigged the 5.7 had fun on that still over powered with punchy wind.Spent arms after spankfest.Water temp was not bad, gave it a good test.
