utah lake end of summer blowout

Started on the 5.8 and switch to the 4.6. Never felt comfortable today :?? , should have gone with the 4.0. Good wind with big gusts, Biggest turn out at mm19 I have seen. May try the north tomorrow. Anyone else thinking about that?

Man, I am glad I am not alone in not feeling good about the wind today. I was on a 5.5 and was tossed a few times (landed fine, thank goodness) not half mile out of Lindon. The swells were way too big and I was in gears way too big for this condition.

I also got stuck in the reeds for a while. No more UL this season for me. . .

Yeah so much fun!
There must have been 20 persons with twice as many rigs spread out everywhere.
It felt like mid summer at the Gorge with so many faces including a few ghosts ;)
4.2 for several hours.. from way overpowered to just fine. Just great :)

Well. I think I have somewhat figured out rigging for mm19. Two sails - one light wind, one high wind. So when the wind gets turned on I am ready to go.

Anyway 6.3 for a little while, then full on 4.7, then 4.7 extra flat.
There was definitely some good swell and chop. Lots of fun jumps and many times over the handle bars.

Now cold weather is starting.
Whatever thou art, do well thy part.

You gotta love MM19. End-of-the-world-Armageddon-style-sailng at it's finest.
The dark clouds, the blowing dust, garbage everywhere, the impending feeling of doom. I felt like I was in a terminator movie.
The water was extremely rough. It was difficult just getting out (or in).
Total rig-fest. Started out on my 5.0, quickly went to my 4.0. and ended up on my 3.5. Big ramps, big air, went over the handlebars way too many times, and drank way too much UL water.
It was awesome!!!

No more UL this season for me. . .

Don’t do it Leo! I need someone else sailing if my self rescue fails. Utah lake should be great this Fall. Its the last location to become too cold to sail (shallow). Maybe some sessions into November? I don’t have a clew though as this is my first season. I will shut up now.

09-29 MM19 4.0

Postby mike rossberg » Wed Sep 30, 2009 10:13 am

Great session to end summer. I haven't been out for while and what a way to get my sailing legs back. Started with 5.6 and finished with a 4.0 and a smile. I always liked to get humbled at MM19. I snapped a few pics at the end of day. Big shore break, the pic does not do it justice.ImageImage

I might try Provo Boat harbor if the condition is good. Lindon beach is too dirty.

It was a fun session on the mud waves. I arrived late at 5 to see a lot of sails on the water. Thanks June for getting me out there. I guess it was good timing in the fact that everyone was coming in to re rig, since the wind had just notched up a bit. Smallest I had was a 4.2 and it worked out just fine. I had a blast in the swell that was as big as I've seen it on UL. The moon was even out while we were still out sailing, it looked very cool with all the dust blowing around. Well worth the trip.
