1/15 Pineview 16m Waroo, skis

Postby kenclewis » Sat Jan 16, 2010 11:43 pm

Decided to give Pineview a try this morning with my son. Jason K and wife showed up about the same time but decided not to give it a try based on the light wind I assume. It picked up a bit but nothing grand. I did OK with the 16m but there wasn't much with my son's 12m. Landon was up for his first time with a 6m foil I believe. He was able to get the feel a little bit but definitly under powered. I let him try my 12m and he was able to do a lot better. All in all, not a bad day. About what I would expect from Pineview.

Thanks again to Ken for letting me give it a go on his 16m, for the advice on how to work Pineview, as well as quick lesson on launching and turning. Saturday was my first true snowkiting experience, as well as my first time on a depower kite, as I've only been using my trainer since about October. It was a blast and now I'll feel comfortable using my own 16m after a quick lesson from Ken.

I sat and watched for maybe an hour. Just didn't look like enough wind to be much fun. I'd say the wind was -maybe- 10 mph. The weird thing was that the pineview sensor was reading between 16 and 20 avg the whole time I sat there. Anyone know if that sensor is located higher up or away from the narrows, because it was showing wind much higher than was actually there?

That is pretty typical wind for the Pineview Thermal. You do have to shave 6 - 10 mph off the Ogden Power Plant reading.

The meter is in Weber Canyon, not Ogden Canyon.
I don't concider it "current conditions"
I read it as a predictor.

Most of the time we were down there my handheld was reading 4-9 mph then picked up to a more consistent 9+, I was surprised that kites were staying up.
