3/20 Strawberry View Area 11m

Postby Sarah Ranes » Mon Mar 22, 2010 8:01 am

With a NOT very promising forecast, we went anyway, and it turned out good. Wind came up about 4pm, and was very steady, for a couple more hrs, until sunset. I had a good time on the 11, and Linda did great on the 8. The snow was in pretty good condition. Dave, Rachel, Jimmy, and Sara also had a very pleasant, and fun filled afternoon. I was really bummed that I did not have my camera at sunset, it was a spectacular scene, and colors over the whole lake!

On our way out we drove past a few people with kites on the ground at Strawberry River. It looked terrible so we kept driving but it looked like the wind was dead with no one at CC. We kept driving to the overlook and found Sarah and Linda hanging out on the hill. It seemed to pick up as we arrived but it felt super light. Once we got on the kites it turned out to be a perfect evening session. The wind was what paragliders refer to as "Glass off". Quite possibly the smoothest, steadiest wind I've been in all year. It wasn't strong but it was so consistent that even though it felt super light it still had you perfectly powered. That kind of wind that gives you confidence to go big because you know a gust won't throw you or a lull isn't going to drop you out of the sky. I went out on my 15 and Rachel on the 12M Manta. She was finally figuring out how to get decent airs and completely stoked. The snow was just soft enough to be a fair amount more agreeable than on friday. Rachel and I packed it up a little after gorgeous sunset which with the longer days seemed to put it somewhere around 8:00 (love the longer days!). It was great to see you guys Sarah & Linda! - we'll see you in Maui this weekend!!

Can you tell me where is the overlook and the hill from CC lot.

thanks

Dave,....good to see you both too, we will look for you and Rachel in Maui! Wow you guys have gotten really good with the kites, it was fun to watch you both tearing it up on the hill.

Marc, there was almost no wind until about 3:30 which started with some puffs, and then it was steady by 4. From CC lot just go a bit further East, you will see a sign for ladders parking lot, keep going, then you go up a slight hill which curves to the right, you will see a sign that says View area and a parking lot right after, that is the hill where we were sitting.

Thanks for the info Sarah.
I have a 13m Bullaroo and am a nubie so for my level I need some of that steady wind that I missed out on.
