Great late winter getaway to the DR. We sailed every day but the last and there are lots of daily outings to caves, waterfalls and browsing around. Very warm air and humid, and took a little to get used to. Water is bath temp as well. This was our first time there. Exploring the area was half the fun. We found out about the "Dream Project" that was partially sponsored by Vela. It is an adjunct school that assists in kids pre-school on up and mostly run by volunteers and Dominicans. They have the only library for children in the town of Cabarete. We were able to bring about 200 lbs of school supplies. It was a nice thing to be a part of esp. when the other days were spent on the blue windy waters with nice waves out on the reef. The waves were really fun as they are only about shoulder height. Although one day had about 10 ft waves and we occasionally got worked. We stayed at El Magnifico, but there are others within 5 min. of Vela.
