4/23 ULSSB - worse than a skunk

I haven't had the opportunity to kite in a few weeks due to work and family responsibilities. Had a window last Friday. Wind looked good in SLC and all the way down to Springville. However, when I arrived at Lincoln there was no wind, but some decent waves. So I headed over to SSB. Wind was blowing in the high teens, so I rigged a 13. I was by myself, so the drift launch was a total pain due to a huge pile of line-catching sticks, twigs, and logs blown up onto shore. I somehow managed to get the kite in the air after pulling sticks caught up in the lines. Wind was so westerly that the flat area was a downwind reach and I had to blast through the reeds because I didn't have enough power for a very steep upwind tact. Rode for about 15 minutes and the wind died. Then came up due west, but too light to ride. Must have been some stormcloud wind. Waited around for a while, but it didn't come back. Packed up everything and as soon as I hit Provo, the north wind was back on again. I didn't want to put on a wet wetsuit and booties and mess with gusty Lindon wind, so I headed home.

Wow, I thought it was only me that had that kind of luck on the water. Sorry to hear it didn't work out. Sounds like it will be a nuking day tomorrow in places.

It's "good" to hear that someone with your experience and knowledge is still getting hosed every now and then. I'm going through the "maybe I should go there - no wait better over there!" stage on this trip in CA. There are sooooo many options here, and not so many kiters on the light days like we have in Utah ( cuz we all show up in the same place ) bummed it didn't work for ya, but happy to know that I'm not the only one that deals in frustration!
