5/21-22 Ken's Lake Moab 7&9M Waroo

I didn't plan on doing any kiteboarding on a family trip to Moab, but ended up riding three times (my kids are good sports). Stopped on my way down to Moab for a quick session at Lindon on Thursday evening rode powered up on a 15M Speed 3 Foil. The wind was blowing hard in Moab and it was hot (90 degress), so I thought I would check out Ken's Lake located about 10 miles south of town. It is a small lake, about the size of Grantsville. However, it doesn't fill as boxed in and the color is a deep green. It is a scenic location with red rock walls nearby and a great view of the La Sal Mountain range. I rode the first day on a 9M fully lit most of the time. The wind was like a bucking bronco with huge gusts coming through. Water was completely flat as the wind was blowing off-shore. While I was riding, my children hiked up to Faux Falls. It is a short hike from the lake ending at a refreshing waterfall. The next day, the wind was still blowing strong. I decided to throw up a 7m and that was a good call. Had a nice AM session. Afterwards, we went to the Slickrock trail and we were nearly blown off course in some of the gusts. Saw Jeff and Spencer at Morning Glory Arch on Friday morning. Always fun, running into a local windrider!

Re: 5/21-22 June's Lake Powell 101L and 6.5m2

I was on Lake Powell -- much the same story -- family/friends trip; super gusty

We were camped just uplake from the Rincon, where the wind should have had a pretty good fetch, but it was still up and down 10 - 45 mph or so.

I had a full range of gear, but picked my biggest board and sail (101 L and 6.5 m2) -- rig for the holes! but still had to wait for wind to waterstart, and then ditched in self-defense when the biggest gusts came. Still had some good rides. I was comfy in a 3/2 full wetsuit, booties, no gloves.
