Lighting show at sailboat beach

Postby Grant McAllister » Mon Jul 26, 2010 7:41 pm

Got to Sailboat Beach late around 1:45 and saw thunderheads building down Provo Canyon and south of the launch site. Since I was trying out Manny`s Angulo to see if it would run a 8.5M sail, it was not perfect conditions for a real screaming session, but great conditions to see how it would handle big holes and a few planers. Got some rides on the windlines and it jibed like a dream, floated thru the holes and did what a great 125 liter board should do in less than stellar DC conditions.....Sold!!! Thanks Manny....it`s a keeper! BTW...by 3:20 it was July fireworks with lots of rain. The lighting caused fires south of the Heber Airport and made for a real spectacular drive home!

So that's what the sirens were about! Angela, Judy and I were at Charleston, as usual. I got on the water about 1 with a 6.6 and had a little over half an hour of mostly planing conditions. Judy arrived at about that point and rigged a 6.0 with which she proceeded to tear it up for maybe another half hour. Angela arrived as the sky to the southwest was starting to get really dark, and by the time we got her gear set up, the calm before the storm had set in. We all got de-rigged just as the fireworks were getting under way.

I guess the voodoo kite burning I did at the coast worked. I got home today and the wind gusted to 55 mph at my home near DC. Broke a window. Coooooool. Big wind.
