6/1 Rush 11M & 9M

Postby Kenny » Wed Jun 01, 2011 1:57 pm

Arrived at 7:30 to SE wind. It didn't look that strong, so I rigged 11M. Once on the water, I was well-powered, but blown off after about 45 minutes of riding. Rigged down to a 9M and I was lit. Rode for a couple hours and packed it in once all of the cars started arriving. Rode with 2 guys named Brian. Both old-time Rush wind surfers. They were both keyed-in to how sweet Rush can be on a morning SE wind. Thought I saw a fish jump while I was riding. Hope it was just a bird. It is great to see Rush back up to old-time levels, but I hope the old-time carp don't come back as well!

I arrived at 10:00 and rigged 7M.
It was fine, but not lit.
SE winds are sweet, and pretty smooth,
but you need to get farther south on the lake to enjoy SE the most.
The early crowd rigged at the old spot, but kindly moved to the corrals after
explaining the possibility of wind blown road closure.
My hats off to all the windriders today, good job.

kenny,

Believe me when I tell you, you want those carp. For years they kept the weeds down to where they
weren't ever a problem. Without them, the weeds take over in about 1 week of warm weather.

Had a great session this AM. Launched shortly after Kenny at 8:00. First hour on 9m, then 1.5 hours on 7m.

The new launch situation is a bummer because the wind/rigging are so much better at/upwind of the original launch. If we could just get permission to use the upper road, next to the corral our problems would be solved, does anyone know why the owner does not want us on the upper road? Marty can you hook us up? If I bring the guy a 6-pack every time I come to kite will he let me use this road? After looking at the maps we could attempt to get permission from one of the land owners further South.

It's too bad we have all this water and crappy access to the lake.

He is going to let it turn into pasture, he is working on getting his property appraised under the "Greenbelt" appraisal system.
It gives a land owner a big discount on property tax, a certain amount has to be used for agriculture or pasture, to fit into this designation.
His fencing is pitiful and I don't understand how he expects anyone is to know where his property is
I'll contact him again soon for more information, and see if we have options.

This needs to be in the main message forum, I'll copy it to there

Rush Rocks. Had a great day Lit on 11.5M and 8M.There is a cool and unique vibe about riding at Rush. It's the "Kite Beach" or "Event Site" of Utah. There is history out there. Lots of good times and some terror as well. I am so stoked we have it back.

I suppose we can park at the north end and take a short hike up the beach to rig and launch at the old spot. Anyways nice day on the 9m. I eventually went to 7m and then it died....

Good to see everyone today at Rush, Marty, Don, Trevor, and others. Rush does have a great vibe, good to ride there again, Rush is back !!! 9M was good mid-day with some gusts and some holes, hope it lasts. The current parking seems OK to me. Whit G

I appreciate the good vibe going on here with this forum and all it's members. Rush was great 12m sailing after work this evening. Everyone was smiling and enjoying the winds. Marty thanks for all your information and work. It's a unique spot indeed for wind sport.

Killer day!! Arrived at about 12:30 to much lighter wind than the stockton bar's 35-48MPH reading. It was maybe 20-25. Pumped up the 9.5 kite and then it picked up so much that I opted to rig a sail. Ended up riding fully lit on my 4.2 and 80 liter board for about an hour and a half until it backed off and then got a couple hour session on the 9.5 kite that lay waiting. It was a great day for the Bi-wingual (Doug got rides on both kite and windsurf gear as well). First time back at rush in over 7 years. The low-wind indicator bugs haven't changed and I knew I was back at rush when I took off my wetsuit and found out what I thought was some kind of moss stuck to the front of my leg was actually a dead cricket. Some things never change - but it's better than it used to be in many ways. No deep stinky mud and no dead sheep to use as gybe markers. Great day - great crowd of wind addicts!!
