The wind first began stirring at about 9 and was gusting into the mid twenties by 11. And "gusting" was definitely the operative word; also waxing and waining over longer intervals. I went out on my 5.0, George on his 5.7; we were both significantly overpowered in the largest gusts. I rigged down to 4.5, and was still maxed; should have used my 4.0! So far it's been the windiest spring I can remember in 30+ years of sailing DC.
