Tuesday, 9.12, Deer Creek, Formula 147

Sooo nice. I left SLC around 2:30 and arrived to filled in DC just like you want it, wall to wall from Charleston to the dam, no need to go to sailboat beach. My indicators were kinda primitive but effective: Look out the window, clear skies; look at the calendar, mid-September. The wind probably never made it to Jim's weather talker, it hadn't when I last checked, but hey the barometer was dropping a whopping 0.020+ per hour so it was adding up to a pure thermal.

In the end I hit the water and stepped onto a plane and never dropped off until I got tired after 6. It was sweet formula conditions but consistent enough that my light slalom gear might have worked also. That was the amazing thing, how rock solid the wind was. There were no puffs and no dark windy fingers a rarity at DC. Usually that means Utah Lake (and that, plus the swell is what makes UL so rewarding). Maybe it's a manifestation of a pure, unmolested thermal. Whatever, it was a very very constant wind and very filled in. I sailed up to Rainbow bay to see if anyone was out at Sailboat Beach but saw nothing and came back down to race the catamaran for a while. Where was Jim? Shoulda called him maybe.

Today may be a repeat of the endless summer sessions. This weekend gets cold. At this point Saturday at Provo looks like a maybe though.

It did finally make it down to Charleston, but late enough that I'd pretty much given up on it. I thought it seemed pretty gusty down here, although the narrow band of wind speeds on the chart suggests otherwise:
