12/11 Skunked at PM

Postby lesvierra » Mon Dec 11, 2006 4:07 pm

Northwest winds 10-15 were alittle to much out of the North producing little umph at the towers. Got the kite in the air but that is about it. Pm is reporting 6" new, but more like 2-3" so far with pillows of up to 12". Its suppose to snow off and on for the next week with some wind out of the southwest forcasted. Should be a good day or two coming with the forcasted wind direction and new snow, still hidden rocks.

You have to hike a little further past the microwave tower to the top of the ridge for a north wind. You also can't drop too far off the slope or you lose the wind. Someday I'll just hike around to the far side of Cobabe canyon (Davenport or Raintree) when we have a north wind. I am taking off half a day tomorrow and should be up there and ready to go @1:00. 22mph southwest winds are predicted.

Funny you should say that. I started to head over to raintree but I couldnt tell where I was going in a white out. I did not find the traverse and short gladed decent that I remembered from awhile back. But I did notice I a good consistent wind on the back side of the ridge like you said. I thought the wind changed directions enough, so I headed back up on the ridge to launch. But I guess there was a wind shadow up there.

Auggie, did you mention the fence, Nate and I are heading up shortly, its snowing, and probably low visibility up there. Might be a good time to errect some fence.

I didn't find anyone to ask about the fence. I will try tomorrow when I get there.
