Skyline wind talkers are funny

Postby windzup » Mon Jan 15, 2007 10:19 am

So there are two wind talkers at Skyline that report wind. One is on Hwy 31 on the way up to ride. It sits behind a hill and is surrounded by trees. The wind readings are always jumpy and switchy, never producing accurate results. I have been intrigued by a second wind talker that is named Seely Creek. It sits farther south on the Wasatch Plateau and always has good readings. Well yesterday I spent nearly the entire day touring the southern plateau on sleds. Just as at Big Drifts (milepost 14) yesterday, there was little to no wind down there. I checked the Seely Creek reading and it claimed again that it was strong from the W/NW. Turns out, the wind meter is in a east facing canyon, and catches the drainage wind flow that follows the gully every night and morning.

Anyway, the wind talkers are officially un-reliable.
