As I always tell people, DC just doesn't work on a North wind - except when it does. Fairly steady on my home anemometer, so I had to pop down for a look, but based on years of experience, my expectations were almost nonexistent. At the launch, there was a very light swell running in the wrong direction and, except for an occasional feeble gust, almost no perceptible wind, at least on the beach. The perfect day for a 9.5! And it sort of was. It was gusty (surprise!) but less dramatically so than the South wind this past weekend; I was powered up and planing in the biggest gusts and strolling along in the lulls. Although the water level is dropping fast, I only touched bottom once with my 62cm depth-finder fin.

It appears that the wind was quite a bit stronger at the site of my anemometer than it was on the lake. Why? Possibly because the sensor is 35 feet off the ground and has an unobstructed view to the North and East.
