this time of year, after rush has turned to mush, it is usually a safe bet that if the provo airport is blowing, or if bluffdale is blowing, there will usually be someone there. i am the same way and have sat at rush a few times waiting to see if anybody was going to show up becuase i was afraid to kite alone. i've done it once, but have been unsure a couple times with gusty wind.
either way, i've found that by getting a few fellow kiters numbers and being annoying and sending the texts and phone calls, you can usually see if someone is going to kite. i feel that sometimes i send unwanted texts or calls, but it usually yields information about where people are heading.
on another note- props to bill for keeping it positive and teaching the lesson tuesday night! you are such a great teacher and a credit to the kiteboarding community. i may have to schedule a private lesson with you, or at least get you out kiting with me when you don't have a lesson. i feel like my progression has become a bit stagnent. that may be due to the fact that i'm not taking many risks when i head out. i still got more jumps in last sesh than i have had before though... just didn't quite push the envelope all the way.
and marty, i went through the reeds once and had the same problem with the plant particles although i dont' think mine were as bad as yours were. at least they dont hurt like concrete splinters do. i used to get those skateboarding.
