Not as windy, as I had excepted or become use to. Almost everyday this spring was 5.5. I rigged the wrong sail 5.6 hucker. Should have gone with a 6.5 or maybe stepped it up to Carls level and gone 7.5. Anyway, still fun.
I was driving through Grantsville before the sun came up and who did I pull up behind but John F. We celebrated another dawn patrol and had quite a group show up to join us as the morning progressed. It is definitely spooky sailing from intense light from the rising sun into the shadow of the dam. I came within 3 ft. of the rocks a couple of times. It didn't have quite the punch of yesterday (my max speed was down 3 mph) but it was still a blast to be on the small gear. John and I (and I believe George W.) were using 85L boards and 5.6-6.0 sails. I generally choose the largest sail I can handle on the smallest board that will work. I do love my little Sonic 85L. Tail walking once in a while means I have chosen the right sail. Grantsville has given me 18 sessions on the Sonic and 6.0 sail this year. The most interesting thing I learned today; Dimitri said they only used to sail Grantsville in the afternoon because no one knew it had the sweet morning thermal. The wind meters we have today have given us a lot more sailing.

Sailing both the Gorge and Utah on my 8'2" HiTech and my 3 Starboards; Sonic 85L, S-Type 115L, and Carve 135L. Small quiver is Northwave, larger sails are Ezzy and Sailworks. Often in my white Odyssey but also in my wife's motor home.
Am I crazy! I wanted to get out there this morning, but am paying the piper for a long Maui trip!
Seriously, yes, Maui's trade winds are epic, yes the water is warm, the beaches are nice, but I still feel the same itch to get out on the water as I ever did!
Hasn't tainted me... I don't care what anyone says... You deal with gusty conditions EVERYWHERE... Even Maui...
