I just registered with UWA in hopes of having more success in chasing a good session out here. Forecast shows wind for the next few days. I was just wondering if anyone could give me some advice. Anyone going out? My buddy and I have wet suits and kites, looking for a good place to go (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday). Thanks

Devin,

Welcome to the sport!

Any riding the rest of this week is going to be seriously cold on the water. The forecast high for tomorrow is 40 degrees. The rule of thumb a lot of riders use is the 100 rule, Air + water temp equals 100 degrees F it is generally safe to go out in a full wetsuit. A drysuit allows you to go out in a lot colder weather, perhaps down to 70 (air temp + water temp = 70) if you have booties, hood, and gloves.

The lakes around here are getting pretty frigid. Last I read, Deercreek was down to 48. I doubt Utah Lake is a whole lot warmer. As a beginner you spend a lot of time in the water, so if you don't have a drysuit, I would shift my focus to learning how to snowkite. Not only will it be a considerably warmer, snowkiting is much easier to learn than kiteboarding on the water.
