First time kiting at a place with a street address. We were boosting right next to the road with lots of cars pulled over to check out the action. Snow was a little thin but was great where those big farm sprinkler things had been moved and packed it down then filled in again by the wind. Always wanted to kite out in Herriman as it is very windy and blows early, especially on a south wind. Lots of other places to kite out there. Wind got really strong towards the end of our session. Mike M. did a sweet back roll kite loop and was well powered on his 12m. Another storm or two and cold weather will make this place great. These farm areas are well manicured with no large rocks and no brush. Closest thing you can get to kiting on a golf course. One minute I was kiting, the next minute I was sitting in a lazy boy eating tacos under a comfy down blanket in front of the boob tube. Regan lives just around the corner.

thank you church of jesus christ of latter day saints and the welfare you provide for the world, and us starving kiters! what a weekend! whiteout conditions at skyline saturday and the commute from hell. i think i had an 11 hour commute for about an hour or two of riding at most. between car problems and the snow on the roads i was reluctant to drive to skyline again. jason posted and then called while he was on his search in herriman. said he found a good spot and i was out the door. i wasn't even going to ride sunday...

the welfare feilds turned out to be great. i definitely need a stone grind and a tune after kiting there, but if the snowpack holds and we get a few more storms, this place could be a lot of fun. there were a bunch of small rocks that were turned up in the atumunal turn i would think. where trucks had drove on the snow there were some awesome packed trails to ride where you could just screem upwind. there is ample parking and a few windshadows/buildings to land your kites behind. the south wind through the point of the mountain just seems to screem through there. much like rush i would imagine. it's a flatland freestylers paradise.

jason was killing it with his 15M and i think we impressed a lot of riverton residents. i just hope this spot sticks around and we don't get shut down.

Nice! I rode there alot the last time we had valley snow, 4 or 5 years ago.
Is the spot you rode north or south of Herriman (town center) ?

I'm not actually sure where Herriman town center is. There are tons of fields out there to kite on. This area was pretty far to the east closer to Bangerter highway.

yea, the backroll was intentional, but the kite loop wasn't. it was my first loop. i've imagined them in my mind, but it's embedded now for sure. the immediate pull downwind was exilerating and frightening for sure. i'm hooked and can't wait to throw another one.

i flew out of salt lake monday afternoon and flew right over where we kited and could see our tracks perfectly. i wonder what people thought as they watched us from the planes yesterday. i promptly fell asleep with thoughts of kiting on the brain. now, i'm stuck in 70 degree san marcos texas... boo.

Hey Mike,

Nice job on the back roll, kiteloop! If you don't want the loop, put your hands in the middle of the bar. It may also help if you let go of the bar with your back hand so that you only put pressure on your front hand to bring the kite forward. Next, try some front rolls. They are fun and they take the spin out of the lines after a back roll.
