1/19 Pow Mow WOW 10 M Manta II

Was ready to give Strawbs a try when Marty called suggesting Powder Mountain, as I have never kited there, I thought, 'what the hey'. Arrived around noon to perfect 16-18 mph winds, gusts to 20, but totally socked in. Couldn't see 100 feet. Met Augie in the Lodge and he was hopeful it would clear out. We all waited till around 2:30 and then Augie made the ultimate sacrifice and left for Monty, that was what we needed, the skies cleared and gave us beautiful, blue bird conditions. Winds were still nice and steady. We both put up 10M Manta II's, hiked past the trees and took off. Didn't look back for over two hours of sheer bliss, 12"-18" of light Utah pow, blue skies, steady wind, great terrain. A little spooky to arrive to see a kite stuck in the trees, however, any one we know??

Good decision to go there instead of Strawberry. My buddy and I got to strawberry around 9:30 at CC. Sat in the snow chatting for 30 minutes with no wind before deciding to rig up as we saw a small front coming in. The front did bring light wind. I didn't have a wind meter but my guess was 8-12 mph at best. We flew a 16.5 Cabrinha Contra for about 40 minutes or so before the front passed and the skies cleared and the wind completely stopped. We packed it up and headed home about 11:30.

:D Skyline rocked to day. Rob and I got there about 10:45 and it was a little lite but made it up to Bosco's hill and winds were decent. few odd gusts. then the sun came out and the winds got light. But Rob didn't stop with his 15 m Manta! he was going up the hill and flying down the whole thing. he was hading for the road, he must have done this 15 to 20 times as well all watched. The winds picked up a bit and Jeff got out on his inflatable and started flying off the lower part of the hill. A bit more time passed and the winds picked up so the rest of us were able to ride and have fun too. Did not have to work the kite at all to get up the hill this time. I rode a 12 Manta all day. I must say, we left and the winds were still going strong with blue skies. enough time for another couple of sessions to be had for those who stayed.
