I just did a long weekend at the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I have a son living in DC who is just getting into kiting and we had a great time. The island is very long with lots of spots to launch . Typically the winds are NE this time of year and reliable but it has been a bit sketchy this fall. We were lucky to get 2 of 3 days with good wind and weather. It was much like South Padre with the inland side being shallow and great for learning. My son is fresh off lessons and I was there to keep an eye on him, help him learn to launch and land and start staying upwind. He did great! The ocean side has miles of shore break and places to launch and do downwinders. I wasn't there long enough to say if I like as well or better than South Padre but it's a cool place and the locals were very helpful.
