12/9 Skyline 17M SA

Postby Kenny » Sat Dec 09, 2006 10:52 pm

Arrived at 7 AM to 10-15 mph wind out of the sw. Rode some nice 4" powder on the ridge while one of my friends practised flying a 3M trainer. We moved down to the main riding area and my friend flew a 7M Frenzy. Charles showed up and started pumping a 16M Waroo. I thought I might be able to fly a speed flyer up the hill, but the wind was not strong enough, so I ended hiking up the hill. I could not generate enough speed to get any lift of the south side of the hill. I probably should have tried the north side, but I was concerned about the crosswind since I am just learning how to speed fly. Ended up having to hike from the bottom of the hill. I was amazed to see my friend riding around like he owned the place on the 7M. I decided to have one last go on the 17M SA. The wind continued to pick up. I had so much power that I was going up the hill faster than I could ride down. My snowboard turned into a plow and I was doing everything in my power to hold the kite down. Did a few small glides and then on one the wind gusted and picked me up high. It was cool hanging up there. When I landed I had a hard time even staying up wind, so I decided to call it a day. When I left there were 15 kites in the air and it looked like everyone was having a great time.

Dude, that wasn't high. It was huge. I saw you coming off the Bosco when I showed up. You got it dialed.
