I got off of work @ 3:00 and decided to try to see if the famous inversion wind was blowing at Pineview. It was absolutely still everywhere in Ogden and every flag that I saw was hanging limp in town. When I got near the mouth of Ogden canyon I noticed my first sign of hope- a flag at the gas station at 20th and Harrison was just slightly moving and it looked like the wind was going to be coming down the canyon. When I got to the damkeepers house and parked, I got out and smiled since I had about 6-7mph at my car and I knew I could add at least 5mph to that out on the ice. Sure enough, when I walked out on the ice the wind was about 12mph from the west and I threw up the Frenzy. I just love not having to pump up the kite. It maximizes the short time that I had to kite. The wind stayed about 12-15mph steady the whole time that I was there and I left @ 6:00. I could go all the way up and down the Narrows and if I had more time I would have went further out on the reservoir since the wind still felt good at the east end of the narrows. I pulled a few small jumps but the hard surface made me think a big jump attempt was not smart. I was able to edge so hard that I dragged my upwind hand in the snow several times and even did a couple of hip checks on the ice. The cool thing about hip checking is although you have probably lost your ski edge bite, you are still hanging onto the bar and the kite pulls you right through it and you just pull yourself back upright by the bar and keep going. I had several cars stop at the pullouts to watch me-when you are in the narrows there are cars on 3 sides. The moonlight ride next weekend should be good.
