Tried Yuba with Ryan, got skunked. I still can't figure it out though. We had 7-10 (SW) at Painted Rocks then went over to the North Beach to 10-13 (E), then tried West beach with 4-8 (E). I guess all that makes sense other than the Yuba Mesowest said 16 (SE) while we were there. That site (if it is near the dam where I think it is) is not that far south of where we were. Oh-well we still need to figure that place out a bit better.

I thought we might get a good thermal at SSB so I headed down in the afternoon. Unfortunately the wife was out so I had the kids. I brought the beach toys thinking at a minimum a nice north breeze would keep the mesquitos down. I also brought the kite gear just in case a babysitter showed up (really dreaming). But at a minimum I thought I could watch others getting a fix.

Arrived to a supper clean, smooth 25 mph wind. No one on the beach. The thunder cell that was driving the wind was crossing west to east but way on the north end of the lake. At the beach it was clear and beautiful. After about an hour of that wind I couldn't help myself so I called some of the guys thinking maybe someone is desperate enough to run down in the hopes that it won't die. Soon after it eased up but was still rideable on the bigger gear. In an ideal world we would have been on 7-9 m kites for about one and a half hours then we would have come in and swapped to our light wind gear 13-15 m and bigger boards for the last hour.

So everyone missed it but it was a really tough one to call.
