Arrived 7/31 on the direct flight and sailed 5.4 for 2 hours at Maui Sunset in Kehi with 10 kiters. 8/01 rode 5.0 on 78 ltr JP free wave at Kanaha. Sailed up wind all the way Spreakelsville. The surf is small but still managed to catch afew waves. On the way back I was day dreaming and managed to stick the nose and got slamed so hard that I lost both my hat and and sunglasses. 8/02 I went to Lens Crafters to buy new sun glasses. It is amazing what they can do in 1 hour. I looked at a great lot in a gated comunity east of Wailuku, and then went Kanaha to find the wind light and more northerly so I chose to sail from the Sugar Beach condo where I am staying in north Kehi. Rode 4.5 over powered between the condo and Buzz's warf alone nobody around. The wind waves were 4ft with spray developing in the gusts.I was scared to death the entire time, but managed hang in there for 2 hours it was exciting to say the least. My Utah survival skills really paid off. The next 3 days are calling for increasing trade winds so it looks like more North shore adventures.

Eric,
I stayed at Sugar Beach Condos last Fall. The wind is indeed "Utah" gusty there. I guess that is why almost all of the sailors and kiters flock to the north shore. I kind of like getting away from the crowds. Have fun and enjoy the wind while you can because it is dead here.
