SW wind appeared suddenly at 2. By the time I got to the beach (about 2:30) the lake was covered with whitecaps and the anemometer was showing high teens and low 20s. Got on the water at 3 and was well powered with a 6.6 - for about 15 minutes, then alternately scholgged and planed for another 15 minutes, then mostly schlogged for another half an hour, hoping all the time that the wind would fill back in. It didn't, although it never totally died either. I was eventually joined by a lone kiter, who was forced to do some very vigorous power stroking in the 6-10 mph wind. Enough to plane with a Formula board and a 9.5? Yes, at least intermittently.
