4/11 Pow Mow 13m Instinct

I took off early from work and tried to capture the north wind at Pow Mow. It is the worst direction to kite up there but I couldn't resist the 12 inches of freshies they were reporting. After 2 hours of fighting a light wind that was blowing downhill I gave up and hiked out. I was glad to have tele ski's with free-pivot bindings. It took about an hour to get to my car since I had stashed my pack and poles too far upwind.
I went up yesterday for the final day and it was way warm at altitude (52f). There is still loads of snow and since the resort is now closed there is no place to buy a kiter pass even if you wanted to. Look for new snow to fall or try the time frame of about 10:30 to 12:30 for the best snow conditions. There are even a couple of spots close to the upper lodge that would work on a north wind that we avoid during the ski season that can be used now.
