7-25 G'ville 6.5 flattened, Sumo 105

Early it was. Flags not moving in downtown G'ville, though some treetops. S end of town more wind. G'ville reservoir windy. Rigged 6.5 flat, not wanting to jinx it by rigging a 5.7. Sailing by 7:00. First hour was bliss. You know, wound-up typical G'ville steadiness, 6-8 reaches never coming off a plane (even my jibes, wahoo). Then at 8:00 it got windier, shifting a bit more S. Coulda been on a 5.7 no problem. Thought about rigging down, but said to myself, "What would Zenmaster Ken do?" "What would Grant do?" "Aren't you supposed to say no to 5.X or whatever?" Hung on happily. Not too many tailwalks.

Joined around 8:00 by Troy and his son Sam from Stansbury sharing a rig. Troy holding down a 7.0 on a Starbd S type making nice sail jibes. Sam gamely working on uphauling between Troy's sessions what was a too-big sail in too much wind. As I was derigging saw Troy do a massive downwinder all the way back down the lake at full tilt, tailwalking imminent, but he kept it at full bore on the water to the end. Way ta go.

Still blowing when I left at 9:30 for a 10:30 meeting at work. 2 hours solid, 10 minutes more planing time than driving time. Yahoo.

Like the man said, it's summer in Utah.

Good ratio to keep in mind with planing time over driving time being greater than 1. It looked good on iwindsurf grantsville site.
