Sulpher Creek Campout 8/22 thru 8/24

Postby Sarah Ranes » Mon Aug 25, 2008 8:48 am

Just as Craig forcasted....not a nuker, but we did get rides on Friday afternoon. Bob had arrived @ 10am and got a couple of hours worth. The rest of us got the left overs, but at least got rides.

No rides on Sat, but a serious game of Techra??? kind of like volley ball with your feet. Bob and Doug ruled the court, most of us just tried to stay on our feet, and get the ball in the air. A few minor injuries happened, me tripping over our line string...and Marty testing his knee, he got a reminder, that it's still not 100% (Marty I hope it's better now!)

Sat also provided a huge crawdad harvest. The kids...big and small were on the dock all day, reeling them in. It was big entertainment, and provided quite a feast that evening. Rick did an amazing job of getting all the groceries, and equipment together, and many helped out to put it all together. Windsurfing movies at the Pavillion, were kind of fun, and as usual the camp fire ruled!

Sunday started with no wind and Olympic dock sports by Dave and Rachel and the family. Run down the dock fast and try to make it across 2 boards, lined up, then go for distance, or a move of some kind. It was great entertainment, for all. Finally about an hours worth of wind fun about 3pm, most campers had headed for home. Big gear ruled.....Jerry G on his 11 m and formula baord. Myself on a 136 ltr and 7.2, Linda on a 7.5, Jim H. even got in the straps on his 6.8 and 103. Rick H and Rick M got rides too. All in all a really fun weekend

I would like to add that I was seriously surprised at how many people still came up despite the windlessnessless. Thanks to those of you who made it worth the work.

Also, thanks to Sarah for organizing the event (for the last, what, 10 years?) and for Fred Grundell who brought his video projector to Sarah's house so that we could have the Windsurfing Movie play at the Pavillion... Not to be confused with Pavillions at Ho'okipa!

The beginner family who came got a ton of time on the water in the breezes available which really was fun to watch. Thanks to Josh S. for bringing the beginner rigs and stimulator and for giving the time for the lesson on land. :|| Jeff Moore and his family and his bro in law's fam all got quality time out on the water. We paddled out with them and continued the lessons on the water. It was a very productive day for them.

Thx to Ilene for helping in a big way by cutting up a lot of food for the crawfish boil. Especially the pearl onions! And Linda for the S'more ____ing!

I video'ed some of the afternoon sunday session for proof and missed most of the sesh! 8) Thanks Jerry for inspiring us to stick it out and get out there.

The point is, Saturday and Sunday are the days that count for the campout and in the end there was no UWA campout skunk! Which was a surprise to me!
