After the rain of the 26th and more rain and unsettled weather of Thanksgiving Day, it finally cleared up. I got some 7.5 rides on Friday the 28th, but shoulda rigged the big gear, because it was mostly teasers. Saturday it kicked in, got some 7.5 in the AM, some Formula early PM, then some solid 7.5 later PM. Sailed across to find Bucky and Scott, perennial Mojave sailors, but Fred from Oregon said they were down at Katherine's where I'm sure it was a bit stronger. (Hey Bucky, post, willya?). Saw someone kiting from what I think is 9-Mile Cove further south.
Warm sunny weather, warmish water compared to last year, blue water, clear, etc. Primo camping right on the water as always, on the east shore Cottonwood cove. No people whatsoever. Can't believe we're only 90 minutes from Las Vegas. Saw two coyotes and three wild burros, one of which ate carrots out of the hand. Really cute. Also saw a merlin, (bird like a kestrel) which was a first. Lots of coots, no beavers or beaver dams. Campfires at night under the Milky Way. Great skies at night, even with the lights from Sin City so close.
Loaded up Sunday during a breezy morning. As I drove away at 11:30, it jacked up to 5.7-6.5, sunny, warm and empty. Insert crying face here. Hit the primo East Coast sub shop, Caprietti's, in Boulder, on the way back. Awesome subs. 8.5 hrs total to get home, even with some wrecks near Santaquin.
