5/7 Utah Lake Pelican Point 7.2

I left work just after 3pm, hoping to beat traffic south. All went smoothly until just after Lehi round about, a mile or so west @ Saratoga road. Traffic was backed up for miles, and was not moving much. I decided to try a detour, and head south on Saratoga road, but only made it a mile or so, and the road was closed. I zigged and zagged through a couple neighborhoods, but all dead ended. So I headed back to traffic hell. I took 3 cycles of the light, for traffic to move enough for me to even turn west. Then it took about 40 minutes to make it to Redwood road, there was a guy walking, that beat me by a ways. It looks like a project that will be going on for a while. they are working on the road across from Smith's, but it had traffic backed up for miles.

Once I made it to PP, I joined John F, Gunnars B, and Mike. John had been out on his 9.5 and gotten some rides. Slight Caps were showing, but I was a bit worried that my 7.2, would not be enough. I rigged anyway, and headed out. The 7.2 worked great, and I took off on a plane and had plenty of power to make it up wind a bit. Everybody got rides, Gunnars was on his 7.0 and 105ltr board. I would guess that around 6:30 was when the wind was strongest, and I considered rigging down, but I knew that it was getting late, and I was getting a bit tired, so I stuck with it until after 7pm. It was a really fun evening session of sailing and good company, definately worth the trip!

Great first session of the year for me. 7.5 and 160 liters. Sarah I think you asked if I was op, just a bagged out 7.5, big piece of chop and some weeds caused that spin out. If you go to lehi through the circle down and the road and turn left on 1700 west and follow it to the T and make a right, then follow that to 400 south and make a right you will be in business.

There is a way to get around much of the traffic. Go to the Provo Boat Harbor.

Or get off at the Lehi Exit - the one next to Lehi High School.

head west on Main street until you get to the turn about. Head South on 500 West until you come to a "T" in the road or 7350 N. Turn right (West) and drive the road turns into Saratoga Road and cross the river. Eventually you are back on the Redwood Road.

You will pop out in the corn fields.

Works pretty well for now.
Whatever thou art, do well thy part.

thanks Josh and Mike for the alternate routes.....that should help alot.

Mike, I was asking (yelling) if you were heading all the way across the lake? I was thinking about it. Those reeds were a real problem last night, I has some pretty good spin outs, and some big slow downs.

Carl I had on a 4/3 steamer.....but I'm a whimp for the cold. Regular booties, which I always wear, no gloves, or hood. Water temp was not bad, but the sun was also out. so anything with sleaves and full legs would be fine. Hope to see you out soon....Maybe DC? SR
