Hi guys...The windgods have been good to us with four out of 5 days of great sailing. One day of 4.5 sailing in the rain and needed some major windshild wipers to see where I`m going! Yesterday Grant Jr. hit a sandbar breaking a brand new 430 mast and bent his booms. Long swim back to the beach! Thought I`d give you a heads up on flying gear to the east coast. Checked out several airlines and southwest quoted the lowest rate....$50.00 got my board bag and seperate sailbag ( 4 sails with mast) on board. Today it`s raining and windless so it`s back to the windsurfing shops for a new 430 mast and booms. This sport sure gets expensive but the stoke factor is way up there....god I love this place!

Wow, broke a mast and bend the boom after hitting a sand bar?!? He must be hitting it hard! I had my fair share of sand bar accidents. So far, only one ripped sail and a bend boom tail. . .

I got a question about the cost of transporting gears. Did Southwest charge you $50 for both bags or $50 for each? Also, did you have one board with you or two boards? Please let me know. Thanks.

Hi Leo...Sorry for the delay getting back to you but just got home from the obx. Southwest only charged me $50.00 for both sail bag and board bag(with one board), but each agent seems to have a different twist on the cost. Best bet is to call customer service before you go and get a name of the person who confirmed the price quote so you`ll have some backup in case the agent who checks you in has questions. I didn`t fly my gear home as I`m leaving it at my sons house in NC. so I only had to go thru the check in once.

Thanks, Grant. I am planning to visit southern Texas sometime during the winter and it might not be as costly to rent gears there. But this is good information. :)
