10/11 DC BWB 10m

Postby Jason Klein » Sun Oct 11, 2009 8:47 pm

Arrived about 12:45 to find John G out on a 13m and Todd out on a 15m. Started to pump the 14, but watched Chris S launch a 14 and get pulled around a bit, Tommy launched an 11 and looked ok, so I went back to the car for the 10. John and Todd basically got blown off the water right before I headed out, and Tommy came in as well, so I had the water to myself for about a half hour before a few others finally strapped a pair on and joined me. Had a 2 hour session in very gusty 18-35 mph winds. not a bad session, really, if somewhat terrifying at times. really big swell for DC. Thought about coming in to switch to the 8 for a while, then remembered that I didn't bring it. Have to remember rule #1, Always Bring Everything.

I was only 2 kite sizes off :oo ! It was actually really nice riding when I went back out on my 9m and it stayed up for a bit :)))

Getting there early is usually the ticket, not today. did my usual pump the 15 before it dies in a hour and a half, did not work today. wish I would have got there late to see carnage and rig a 9m like I should have done. Yea I got blown off the water and left my board in the water. Oh well I got two good days in being early and a nice hike down to Charleston to find my board. nice job all you riders that made it work today. :)))

The wind was very south for about an hour on Jim's wind meter, and you could tell. For that hour or so, the gusts were strong, but the lulls were ridiculous. I launched the 14 while John and Todd had 13 and 15 kites out. After being picked up about 2 feet while fully depowered, and getting anchord by another person, I rigged the 11. My timing sucked. The 11 powered and dropped right in front of Sensei Billy. I felt like falling on my sword in front of him. So I pumped up kite #3 - a 9m and launched from the beach. Had a good enough time to do it again later, learned a ton, and came back in one piece. Works for me...

Had a short but great session on my 11m! I try not to get too greedy at DC. Gets yours and get off the water before it goes bad. Saturday was pretty decent 15m small board wind. Kenny was out on his new 19m Speed 3. Pretty kite. Golden brown and white. Like hashbrowns covered with country gravy! The perfect hangover cure.
