I brought both of my kites to California in hopes of doing some wind riding while I was out here. In fact, I've been staying on a lake all week just staring out at it hoping for a slight breeze to at least get my hopes up. Nothin'! Just as I was about to give up hope and have to return to Utah empty handed, a sweet little frontal system blew through and delivered the goods. A quick little tutorial for the brother-in-law on how to launch and land a kite, and I was in business.
As far as I've been able to assess from the locals and my own observations over the past 10 years, no one had ever kited on Clear Lake before...that is...no one until today!

I think it's due to the fact that there are very few viable launch sites, mostly on private property, and the lake's proximity to the Bay Area where kiting spots abound. Whatever the reason, it was a thrill to deprive Clear Lake of its kiting virginity! Air temps were in the mid 60's, water temp was about 60 - not bad for kiting
after Thanksgiving!
I am even more stoked now for snow kiting in Utah. Bring it on!
