12/20 Pow Mow 10m Frenzy

Postby Augie » Sun Dec 20, 2009 5:58 pm

The forecast said 6-10-SSW wind, increasing to 8-13 tonight. As I headed up, I thought I would just ski if the winds weren't good. I arrived at 12:45 in the parking lot and saw Brian getting ready. His windmeter said 13. Knowing it was probably going to increase and also that I was going to kite the next 4 days I just took my 10m. It was plenty of power. The snow is set up better than earlier this week and the winds increased throughout the day. Probably blowing 20 -25 when I left. Met Jim Hornbeck and the new kiteschool pro, Andy. At one point there were 5 of us flying. Great day and more to come. Still a little bit of brush poking through.
The fishermen are out on Pinview so that looks good to go now also.
The Pow Mow wind gauge is still broke. I have found that the Logan Peak gauge is the most accurate one to use for real time info. Also check Snowbasin-Wildcat and Ogden Peak gauges to get an idea of what the winds are in the area.

Ya super fun day! I checked with my meter a couple more times and it was reading hi teens lo twenties both times. I didn't even think it would blow so that was a great suprise. The snow was really nice but there are still a few rocks and some bushes to watch out for. I asked Andy about the gauge...he said it got hit by lightning over the summer. Apparently its working now but they haven't gotten it back online yet so hopefully before too long.
