I arrived just before 1, to several windsurfers, and kiters out on the water, and many on the beach. I was quickly informed thath the wind gusts were already hitting over 30, so I decided on the 3.7 and small Gorge board. It worked out great, and I had enough to make it up wind a bit to a great zone of wind and swell. It was as good of swell as any I've gotten to play in, here in Utah. Swell was a bit tight together, so the turns had to be tight too, but it had some nice smooth sections, that were great fun to play on. the wind stayed pretty steady and full for several hours, and I think every one got all the rides that they wanted.
I think the toughest part was just getting out through the tight shore break, with such strong onshore wind. I got yanked, and my gear pulled away from me a couple of times, but finally jumped on and got going, and then it did not seem too bad. It was only my 2nd time sailing at Willard, so i still am learning it's do's and don'ts, but I will be watching for another windy day there. it was a lot of fun.
