National Weather Service was only calling for SW 15-25 which is not enough in the thin high mountain air for Sulfur to really work.
HOWEVER, the observations all started reading 20+ after 11am so I went.
There was a big fire about 10 miles northeast of the lake when I got there about 2:30 PM, otherwise the sky was crystal clear.
The wind was a gusty 20-30 MPH with the average closer to 30 so there was a lot of power. Most folks were already out on 4.5 - 5.5 sails.
I rigged my 4.7 but as an insurance policy put it on my 125 Liter board.

I sailed about 2 hours where most of the time I was on-plane and I was making these reaches that went all the way across.
Now, I like to use Google Earth to look at things. One day I looked at Sulfur Creek reservoir and used the measurement tool. From where we launch over to the far side of the lake by the spillway is about 4,000 feet or 0.8 miles. Given these distance and the number of reaches I made I reckon I sailed about 30 miles on plane yesterday.

Yes Alvin Sunday was awesome. My 5.2 was the call for me and got pretty much all I could handle. Good group of people out enjoying one of the few warm days left up there.( The water's none too warm ) All the smoke from the fires made the sunset on the way home look like something out of a sci fi movie. Eerie looking. I hope none of you were affected by them. And by the way,I have your hat. You left it on my truck. I went up Sat but not windy enough for me. Bob went out on big stuff for a while.Bob allready had his trailer up in the Uintahs so I took mine up and we had a nice campfire and quiet nite. Not many people up there after Labor day. Sounds like it could blow up there today. I don't know if I can go. I've got dumptrucks scheduled for this A.M. Late, Tom W.
