Skyline, Thurs Nov 18th. Powered up

Postby windzup » Thu Nov 18, 2010 7:38 pm

Another good day at Skyline. Around 9 kiters, flying 11-17 meter kites. Conditions are good, but can be better. The snow has packed to a 12-15 inch base, wind blown as well. Still soft snow in pockets and fresh tracks. Still a few rocks poking out. Good wind, with some gusts rolling thru. Started light and built and filled in during the day. Nice powered session, some times with the bar out and some times looping like mad. Powered in the flats and had fun on the roadside quarter pipe, the NW winds helped fill it in and form it up into a nice vert wall.

David was getting some nice glides off the bottom slope and Peter went nuts on a solo mission. Pulled the Chasta and sent it from the top a few times, clearing the treeline and scaring the rest of us. :) The southerly side hill wind also was blowing Peter downwind fast on a couple runs, one took him to the highway, you'll have to ask him about that one... might see Peter sporting a new jacket next session. ;))

Here's a couple shots from the day. I only put in one session but managed to log 20 miles and 40+ mph max speed on the gps in a couple of hours. I'd say that Skyline is 60-70% open, but the open area is mighty fine and plentiful.

Awsome day
Brian, Dave Kyle, Eric Holmgren, Chris Gainer, Tyler and his crew and two others which I cannot think of their names right now were riding

Kiting is so much fun because its like running into a big family all the time.

Okay Brian here is my safety tip for every one when gliding do not land in the middle of the highway. I put a hole in my brand new yellow bumble bee jacket. I did however 1 time flew over the highway and made it from the top of bosco.

Good first day up there. The other two guys were me and Justin, who is new to kiting. He went right down wind and I stopped him before the road. Back to basic kite flying for him. My 12m was a bit underpowered. 14 would have been much better. The sun sure goes down early this side of Dec 21!!
