I met the guy on the RPM while heading out, but forget his name. Looked to be a competant kiter and probably closer to John G's age than mine. He had kited back to the parking area, and landed there. I headed over that way maybe 10 mins later and as i got close, saw his kite, LE down into the wind, with skis laying on LE. After one more tack, I noticed the kite wasn't there anymore and i remember thinking "wow, he put that away pretty fast", until i saw him walking up the hill with a tangle of kite and lines 10 minutes later. The wind was 25+ at that point (I was going back to the lot to rig down). He was probably at his car for only 5-10 minutes when it got away. I guess the lesson here is kites will slide much easier on snow than on the beach and leaning your skis/board up on the leading edge isn't sufficient.
