4/2 - 4/12 13M Caye Calker, Belize

Tyler and I took a fly fishing/kiting trip down to Belize for a couple weeks and just got back. It was fun to kite on crystal clear water in hot weather. We were on the island of Caye Calker which is surrounded by miles of flats so unless you go upwind for a couple hours to the reef the water stays pretty smooth. We kited only 13 meter though we had packed some smaller gear.
The launch on the island is a little sketchy (palm trees and docks all over the shore) and there are a lot of tourists in the water near the beach, but the warm water and salty air do more than make up for the hardships. The wind is good, but occasionally it would degrade in quality and gust or lull for a few minutes. Never enough to put you in the water, but combined with the strong in or outbound tide made for some pretty aggressive tac lines to stay on target.
Kind of funny all in all, but I would put a solid summer evening sesh at Lincoln beach or South Sandy on par with Caribbean kiting any day. Sometimes I forget how good we have it here.
It was my first appearance kiting in a while due to recovering from a nasty ankle injury a few months ago, and it was good to work some of the stiffness out. Glad to be riding again.
Looking forward to seeing everyone out on the water.
