I just spoke with the mountain manager. The problem isn't with Powder Mountain but their insurance company. To put it simply-they panicked since this is the first that they heard anyone kiting there. Powder Mountain sees kiting as something positive but currently it is on hold. They talked about it in todays staff meeting and want to allow it but want to figure out how to keep the insurance company happy. This is what will probably happen-They will create some kind of pass with a different liability waiver on the back. I know we can kite anywhere without a pass but this will not be a full price thing. It will probably be a 10 ride punch pass. I am tentatively going to meet with the insurance rep to discuss our sport. She is a former ski patroller and I have worked as a Powder Mountain weekend patroller for 21 years. My real job is a safety program manager at Hill AFB. I hope our common ground will smooth things over and we can solve this quickly. I told Pow Mow that they are unique and most ski areas couldn't pull this off if they wanted to due to a lack of terrain. Anyhow, the mountain manager told me to call back tomorrow for further updates. I told him that I have Friday off and wanted to kite and he said he should have it worked out before then. If this was happening in Europe we wouldn't care what the insurance company or lawyers said. I will post as soon as I hear something.
