"Our" Dimitrije...

Postby RickHeninger » Thu Nov 11, 2010 6:07 pm

Smithsonian Mag Article about the history of Snowboarding.

I've been trying to research online who actually manufactured "The Ski" and it's surprisingly difficult to find out because the phrase is EVERYWHERE and I came across this aritcle... I've read it before but this is Smithsonian... I haven't checked if Milosport or Dimitrije is mentioned in windsurfing history but they should be... A lot of addicted Utahns transplanted to the Gorge, Maui, etc. from their start here thanks to Milosport. Really cool Dimitrije...

So, does anybody know who manufactured The Ski? Was it Pre? Or was it a totally separate company?

Man, you never know who you gonna be hanging out with in Utah's water. I didn't know Dimitrije is so influential in snowboarding. What else could windsurfers do? I mean Jim Drake was only a spaceship designer for NASA. . .

Rick
Yes! Thanks Dimitri. Back in 1976 when I got my first board from you....my world changed forever. Snow Surfing.... aaahhha.
Bobbie Burns is the shaper of the "The Ski". He lives in Driggs and still makes skis. They rocked back in the day. Pre was a break off brand, also a really good ski.

Barry Spanier mentions the work that Dimitrije did in the development of speed sailing in the 80's. There is a great history of windsurfing on the Maui Sails web site. Look in the Barry's Corner section.

Well,
As far as The Ski is concerned, I still have about 25 pairs, if anyone is interested; mostly with Spademan bindings mounted on them. Great skis. Thanks Bobby Burns. His new ones, which I can't afford, go for about $3000-$4000/pair; and Yes, they still have sagebrush in them, still have no name on them other than the occasional Bobby Burns signature, and the rectangles have changed to ovals.
